DIABETIC FOOT CARE
Ontario Foot & Orthotics is actively involved in the Halton Health Care Diabetes Best Practice Outreach Program. We strive to educate patients of the potential risks involved with improper foot care in order to prevent long term complications. Diabetic patients are at risk of experiencing sensory neuropathy (loss of sensation) in the feet. As a result, patients are at risk of developing ulcers, which in some cases can lead to amputation if not appropriately treated.
All diabetic patients at Ontario Foot & Orthotics receive a diabetic foot screen as part of the assessment. Through this screening we are able to identify the patients’ risk level, which can then be used to formulate strategic management plans.
In addition, practitioners at Ontario Foot & Orthotics have received additional training in complex wound care through the Canadian Association of Wound Care.
